|From 25th Annual Cruise Against AIDS|
The planning committee (Cathi, Allan, Tim, Jeff, Camron, Todd and Clyde) chose July 25 for the run in hopes of better weather. The committee set about soliciting sponsors from local businesses throughout the metro area, arranging for advertising, planning the route and putting up posters.
Charlie's of Denver made their facilities available for the meet-up and registration, served everyone breakfast, and provided beverages for the barbecue. The OutFront and Gayzette both provided advertising for the event. The Wrangler provided the food for barbecue. Financial support and prizes were provided by long-time sponsors including: CJ's Leather, Rocky Mountain Harley-Davidson, Miller Lite, Erico Motorsports, Heven Sent Me, JR's Bar & Grill, Mile High Harley-Davidson, Motogear Outlet and Mr. Jaris Thomas.
Eighteen bikes and riders road in the annual cruise. Between registration fees and pledges the cruise raised $5,554 on run day with additional pledges to be collected. Between 2006 and 2010 the Cruise Against AIDS has raised over $33,000 dollars! Every participant received a run pin and breakfast before the run.
The riders took off at 10 O'clock for a ride into the foothills. Todd, Cathi and Clyde served as Road Captains. The route took the riders west to Morrison and up Bear Creek Canyon road, through Evergreen to Conifer, then onto South Turkey Creek road, past Tiny Town, back into Denver - ending at Horizon House.
At Horizon House Ron, Carlos, Allan and Darien of the Mountaineers prepared the barbecue while the group engaged in people games. Games included an egg roll (2 people use long sticks to roll an egg through an obstacle course), a bum toss (a variation of a bean bag toss), and a piñata fashioned to look like a motorcycle.
The 25th Annual Cruise Against AIDS concluded with prizes being awarded for the most pledges raised, best looking bike, best people games team, and person attending the annual cruise the longest.
