Horizon House was started by Harry Lester and his partner David in 1988. They opened up their home to men and women living with HIV and AIDS. To date there have been over 100 individuals who have lived at Horizon House, many have died, but many have improved their health to the point were they were able to move into their own places.

Horizon House Inc. is a non-profit corporation formed in 1988 with the express purpose of providing home care services to persons and their families who are struggling with the chronic disability associated with AIDS/HIV.

The program seeks to provide a non-institutional, residential setting that allows persons with AIDS to live and die in a dignified manner. In addition, Horizon House Inc. provides education to the community about AIDS and related issues. All services are provided in the most caring and professional manner, independent of the person's ability to pay.
